Sustainability and the FIT Nonprofit

One of the Six Strengths of FIT Nonprofits, long-term sustainability contributes to an organization’s power to serve its mission. Nonprofit leaders want their organizations to have the capacity to carry out programs now and in the future. In this introductory session, we will discuss the Six Strengths of FIT Nonprofits, and the qualities of a sustainable nonprofit. We will examine some real life challenges to nonprofit sustainability including the hazards of some commonly held beliefs. We will discuss donor and grantor expectations and begin to explore the importance of long-term sustainability as it relates to financial staying power, mission-related impact, continuity of leadership, support and planning. Participants can begin to assess their organization’s sustainability and identify areas where they could build strength.
